Friday night was Keirin Cup at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center in Trexlertown, PA.This event was the first Friday night I was able to ride last season and I loved it so I was pumped up to race. After placing well in various pro keirins around the country I was curious how I would stack up against the international competition that has come to T-town. The night started off with the keirin heats. My heat was filled with fast races just like all the others but I thought if I rode a perfect race I could get in. At first it went really well I was up near the front and watching everyone. With one to go I moved a little ahead of the surge after getting hit around a little from Eddy Dawkins to sit second right on the hip of my teammate Andy Lakintosh. It was all looking good going down the backstretch until Eddy tried to go between me and Laky and almost took me down. I was able to hit him off a little but i had to back off the gas just slightly so I wasn't able to hold off Eddy and a Canadian rider so I didn't make qualify out of the heat. In the rep I ran the race from the front and I was able to qualify for the semi finals. In the semi finals I sat three off the motor to start and held that position until the surge came, I went with the surge and kept myself near the front but got boxed until half a lap to go. At that point I really hit it to try to get into the top four and qualify for the final. Three other riders and myself went four wide across the line in a tight finish for second through fifth. I couldn't tell where exactly I placed but the officials made the call that I was in fifth and didn't make the final. I did have one more ride that night in the B final for 9th through 16th place. I got myself mentally ready for this race as if it was the final. I rode it from second wheel and the Dutch rider made an early move and went off the front. I was able to sit on the Canadian riders wheel as he tried to bring back the Dutchman. Coming out of turn two on the last lap I made my move to go around the Canadian rider and kept on the gas to attempt to get the Dutchman. The dutch rider died in turn three and I was able to catch him and pass him to take ninth place in the Keirin cup. I was very pleased with my performance although I would have liked to have made the final. The entire competition gave me alot of experience, practice, and confidence for Junior Worlds.
