not a lot of time to write, but wanted to drop a quick not thanking all involved in putting on Dick Lane Velodrome's, Pro Racing Series. 'the Keirin' invitational. a very fun event. good crowd, interesting and fun track, excellent competition to sprint against, and amazing people the whole way around.
it was 2 days of racing. sprints and some omnium stuff on friday night, then omnium agian saturday afternoon, then the main Keirin tournement saturday night. i struggle big time on friday in the sprints, but did manage to at least do well in a couple of the minor events (1st in 5 lap dash for cash, and 3rd in 20lap motorpaced scratch race). saturday I was feeling healthier and also my confidence on the track was going up. it is a nicely shaped track, but it has some bumps that take a day or two to get used to.... otherwise they are confidence zappers, which equates to speed zappers.
the main gig, for me at least, was the keirin. 12-rider invitation round robin tournement. 4 points-accumulating races then a final for the top 6.
Final results were:
Espinoza, Baranoski, Sullivan, Lacorte, Rey(me), Lakatosh in the Final and Linchitz, Holt, Hernandez, Erkine, and Rossignol in the 7-12 ride.
I was 5th. A good 5th though. I was happy with it. I road boldly and had fun with it, and have just started doing real sprint training a 4 weeks ago. So this is really good. Also the other dudes were impressive. Lakatosh and Espinoza both breaking the track 200m record. Linchitz with recent 10.6 times in LA. and all other others showing great speed the day before.
